Welcome from the Sixth Form Team

The Sixth Form at Jersey College for Girls is a place where students develop both academically and personally. This prospectus contains information regarding the academic courses that we offer and also about the wide range of extracurricular opportunities that enrich the lives of our students.

The two years students spend in Key Stage 5 are vitally important; what they achieve will often shape their future prospects for higher education or the workplace. Students excel at JCG, making exceptional progress from their academic starting points so as to achieve impressive examination results. These, along with the learning dispositions that they acquire, enable them to progress, with confidence, to the next stages of their lives. Our students benefit from a personalised programme of higher education guidance, and JCG Sixth Form students go on to study degrees at top institutions for their chosen courses. We also provide students in the Sixth Form with excellent careers advice to support their aspirations, and we ensure that they have numerous opportunities to gain work experience or to take on roles of leadership and responsibility within the College. These help them to form the habits of mind and qualities of character that will broaden their horizons and enable them to flourish in the future.

Our staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subjects they teach, and they support all of our students to excel. Sixth Form students are encouraged and expected to develop inquiring minds and to study beyond the curriculum; they are regarded as responsible adults who are given greater freedom than at earlier stages in their schooling. In return, they are expected to manage their time well, to study independently, and to take greater responsibility for their own academic progress. To facilitate this, they benefit from a dedicated Sixth Form Centre and Quiet Study Room, in addition to access to the College’s Library.

Life in the Sixth Form is about far more than academic achievement. It is a time during which there are many opportunities for our students to blossom as individuals, to have fun, and to develop a real sense of belonging by contributing to the wider life of the College. Students in Year 12 and Year 13 are superb ambassadors who serve their College as positive role models for younger students; they take part in community service, both within College and in the wider community, and we have our own Sixth Form charity for which we fundraise. The relationships students form during their time in the Sixth Form, both with their teachers and with each other, establish friendships and values which will nurture their success and their happiness for many years to come.

Finally, if you are currently studying at JCG or elsewhere, we hope that this prospectus gives you a taste of Sixth Form life at JCG, and that you will consider continuing your education, post-16, here with us.
