Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

Our College community has been shocked by the recent events surrounding the murder of Sarah Everard. Many conversations are taking place about our students' own experiences of harassment. Many conversations I have had refer to feelings of denial. It's so important we do talk about this and not tolerate, minimise or normalise such behaviour. It is important for us to hear our students' stories so we understand what it is like for them. The courage shown in telling us so that together we can bring it out into the open and make this better is incredible. This is not a school vs school issue or a boys vs girls issue. It is about deciding what kind of society we want to live in and working together to make it so.

Our students are helping us to understand what they experience, and we will work together to address the issues. This will involve work through our own programmes and collaborating with other schools and relevant agencies.

If we become aware of any safeguarding concerns, we have robust procedure in place which we will follow.

We would also like to signpost you to the following agencies, should you or any member of your family need further support:

Jersey Action Against Rape - www.jaar.je tel. 01534 482 800

Sexual Assault Referral Centre - www.dewberryhouse.je tel. 01534 888222

Our school counsellors: e.mossop@jcg.sch.je & j.sims@jcg.sch.je

Should you wish to discuss our approach to this topic, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of our team.

Yours,

Carl Howarth

Principal
